Nigel Shaw
Tax Director
What I do at Langricks
My role is Tax Director which covers a wide cross-section of tax issues impacting clients and their businesses.
From advising clients on how to remain tax compliant with HMRC to helping them mitigate a wide array of different taxes – no two days are the same when you are involved in the tax sector. Whether it is Capital Gains Tax on the sale of a rental property or helping an elderly client with their estate planning I try to be helpful and supportive where I can.
I am also involved with Trusts, Estates and Probate which all usually involve tax and accountancy issues.
Increasingly we are seeing more “digitisation” of tax and this will be a key area for all our tax team over the next few years.
Life before Langricks
Before joining the business I was a Private Client Partner with Garbutt + Elliott LLP.
I joined them in 1997 as a Senior Tax Manager and progressed to Director and then Partner over the following years.
As well as working on all aspects of Private Clients I was also a Director of a regulated financial services business which gave me a good insight into pensions, investments and other financial issues impacting many High Net Worth Individuals
I started my career with Deloitte Haskins & Sells in Bradford where I met my wife Judith (her father was my Boss !!)
Outside of Langricks
I’m hoping to start the Langricks ‘ Tottenham Hotspur supporters club very soon but my real love when it comes to watching sport is Rugby League (occasionally Rugby Union). I am a season ticket holder at Bradford Bulls and when we are able to attend matches usually take along my 86 year old father-in law and younger brother. Both are fanatical Bulls supporters and very vocal!!
I do lots of running with my local athletic club (Baildon Runners) and am hoping to complete my 10th marathon in 2021 – hopefully in Jersey. I run so I can eat cake, flapjack, biscuits etc.
Married to Judith and our grown up children include a Chartered Accountant, Primary school teacher and Secondary school geography teacher – they all boss me around including our 12 year old Yorkshire Terrier called Harvey (named after the department store ?!!!)
